Assessment of National Statistical System and Tourism Evidence in Serbia

Abstract: The development and accuracy of national tourism statistics are crucial for effective policy-making and sustainable growth in the tourism sector. The paper assesses Serbia’s current national statistical tourism system, focusing on its alignment with international standards and the need for further enhancements. Despite progress in data collection for accommodation statistics and tourism participation, challenges persist in integrating comprehensive demand-side data and fully establishing Tourism Satellite Account. The study underscores the importance of improving data accuracy, reliability, and international data dissemination to strengthen Serbia’s tourism statistics, ultimately supporting more effective policy-making, strategic planning, and long-term competitive­ness in the global tourism market.
